It has been a whirlwind experience working at the 221st General Assembly and we’ve barely gotten started.
As I posted yesterday there was a letter that went out to all commissioners and delegates, and was reblogged online, and even appeared as a paid advertisement in the Outlook (which… weird). This letter criticized the divestment movement in the PC(USA) with some pretty specious arguments including an attempt to discredit advocates for boycotts by drawing a feeble association with white supremacism.
Today I was part of a group that made a press conference happen. I won’t lie, it felt a little like being in an Aaron Sorkin script for a while. It was fun.
Much more importantly it was right and it was strongly supported by eight former moderators of GA along with some excellent witnesses from ecumenical and interfaith partners. We released a letter which I think eloquently responds to the allegations made against us and persuasively argues our position. We also read a fantastic letter from Bishop Desmond Tutu calling the assembly to speak truth and acknowledge our complicity in maintaining the occupation through our investments.
Watch the video of the press conference and share it around your networks to help us advocate for real justice at #GA221.
