These are the best things I’ve seen on the internet this week (no promises they were written the week featured). This regular Friday installment will be full of the awesome theological, creative, interesting, thought-provoking, ethically-challenging, or just ridiculously cool or funny things I rip from the threads of the inter-webs each week. Feel free to challenge me, or add your own in the comments.
#3 :: NOT All Like That!
If you haven’t been following or seeing Dan Savage‘s fantastic video project working to tell GLBTQI youth that life does in fact get better, and you’re like me and you wanted to participate but it weren’t invited from a Christian Ally perspective. Well now you can. Go check out http://notalllikethat.org/ and submit your video, sharing your voice that indeed, Not All Christians are Like That!
#2 :: Less Talk, More Action by Mark Yaconelli
I have a deep connection to Mark, although he and I have only met once. His work through the Youth Min and Spirituality project was the inspiration for me to look at SFTS as a seminary home. His dad was also a great inspiration to me in my early years of youth ministry. And this week I have to give him props, while he doesn’t often seem to post things when he does they often touch that deep place inside of me that longs to tend the spiritual essence of teenagers. His thoughts also hit home with a lot more than Youth, of course.
#1 :: Calvinism, Arminianism and Universalism by Richard Beck
If you’ve ever looked for a teacher’s perspective about how to discuss the issues surrounding salvation while keeping it short, straightforward, AND not-dumbing-it-down… Then this is the post for you. Dr. Beck in his ever brilliant way lays out Thomas Talbott‘s 3 propositions about salvation. It would make a great small group discussion or a quick napkin explanation to get people thinking about this issue no matter is they are Calvinist, Arminian, or universalist, or even if they don’t know what those words mean.
And just for kicks…
