But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream! Amos 5:24
We Friars and Fools attended Unconference 2011 last week. It was an incredibly rich and productive time for us. We will be posting our documentary of that experience soon, but today we wanted to bring your attention to one of the new projects to grow out of the fertile Unco soil – #h2o4all.
One thing the majority of the attendees of Unco had in common is that we are hyper-connected people. We blog, we tweet, we facebook (is that really a verb now? Ugh), and we read a lot of news and material from organizations that we care about. Rev. Carol Howard Merritt pointed out on the last day of Unco that our collective audience is probably greater than a few mainstream Christian publications we could name. We should be using that power for good and not just for Unicorn jokes. (Seriously though, keep the unicorn jokes coming – we love them.)
Enter Unconditional. Unconditional is currently a blog, and will soon be folded into the larger umbrella of the Unco site itself. It is intended to be the social justice and awareness raising arm of Unco. Any future social justice oriented projects coming out of Unco will be publicized there.
For this first year of its existence we have selected water issues as the cause which we are trying to draft all Unco participants and friends into writing about. We want you to read articles, research organizations and issues around clean water, and then to blog, tweet and facebook what you find out. To increase our impact we are maintaining a synchroblog which means we want you to all blog on the same day, the 24th of each month. Then tweet it using #h2o4all. Get the details here.
We couldn’t resist choosing Amos 5:24 as our theme for this new project and launching it on 5/24. You can’t get a justice issue much more fundamental than access to clean water. We pray that water rolls down justly to each and every person. We hope you’ll join us in spreading the word. Retweet #h2o4all
