Theological Poetry Slam

When the Holy Spirit comes it is tongues of fire and drunken raving – none of this still small voice stuff. For Pentecost we wanted to do something beautiful and wild and unexpected and… and sometimes we come up with these ideas when we’re really sleep deprived.

So we asked you to write poems for Pentecost, and record yourselves performing them, and submit the videos to us, and for some inexplicable reason eight nine flesh and blood human beings answered the call. We will never be able to properly express our admiration for the ladies and gentlemen who had the chutzpah to participate in this. Spoken Word Poetry is the artform of undiluted badasses. We salute you all.

There were rules for this slam:

  1. Poems under 3 minutes

…that’s it. We haven’t checked the length of these videos. We don’t even care about that rule. But we ARE going to judge these poems. We’re not experts, but we had to somehow pick one of these superstars to give an original Two Friars and a Fool T-Shirt to. So check our portraits at the bottom of each page for our scores and just remember that every one of these poets is way too cool to hang out with us. We are just basking in their reflected glory.

We will post 2 poems each day for the next 4 days so that every poet gets their requisite adulation. *snaps* Check back here regularly to see every poem. Click ye the links and marvel:

The creativity on display here is the hard work and sweat of individuals crazy, erm, spirit-led enough to put their original poetry on the internet for your delight. Reward them with your attention. They deserve it.
